If you don’t have a giant yacht to stop directly in the harbor, other options are available for getting to Saint-Tropez.
But as the town is on an isolated cape, you’ll need to allow a little time to get there.
Whether you’re spending your vacation there or just a day out, our article summarizes all the different ways of getting to Saint-Tropez: train, bus, plane, boat shuttle…

This guide is completely independent, based on our experiences. We visited the region anonymously, making our own choices and paying our bills in full.

Where is Saint-Tropez

Saint-Tropez is located on the Côte d’Azur in the south of France, halfway between Marseille and Nice.
The town lies on a cape surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea.
Here is a map to help you find your way:

And here are the route times, to help you plan ahead:

  • Nice to Saint-Tropez = 1h45
  • Cannes to Saint-Tropez = 1h30

How to get to Saint-Tropez: quick answer

As Saint-Tropez lies on a somewhat isolated cape, it’s not so easy to get to. Simplified:

  • Nearest airport = Nice Côte d’Azur, 1h30 drive away
  • Nearest train stations = Toulon (1h15) or Saint-Raphaël (1h)
  • Excursion from Nice – by boat, book your tickets
  • Excursion from Cannes – by boat, book your tickets

We strongly advise you to book a car for your stay. We recommend the DiscoverCars platform and you can read all our tips in this article.

Closest airports to Saint-Tropez

The town is in the middle of the Côte d’Azur.
You can only land there by helicopter.
It’s halfway between two major airports.

Nice Côte d’Azur airport is a 1.5-hour drive from Saint-Tropez.
Marseille airport is an hour and 50 minutes’ drive from Saint-Tropez.

We couldn’t find a direct bus or train from the airports.
We strongly recommend that you rent a car to make getting around easier.

Parking in Saint-Tropez

The easiest way to get to Saint-Tropez is to rent a car. It will also give you more freedom to explore the area.
The city has several large parking lots, some of them underground. You’ll need to budget for parking.
If you choose a hotel a little outside the city center, closer to the beaches, they’ll probably have on-site parking.

Getting to Saint-Tropez from Nice or Cannes: boat, bus or car

If you want to visit Saint-Tropez for just one day from Nice or Cannes, we recommend a car or shuttle service.

A train + bus journey is possible but very restrictive.
We highly recommend the boat shuttles, which allow you to enjoy the magnificent scenery during the crossing, including the magnificent red Esterel massif.
Be sure to book in advance, especially in summer, as these shuttles are very popular.
In summer they turn every day, in spring and autumn only on certain days. And there are no shuttles in winter.

From Cannes: book your tickets

From Nice: book your tickets by boat
There are also guided bus tours that combine with a visit to Port Grimaud – see program and availability.

From Saint-Raphaël, Bateaux-Saint-Raphael also operates shuttles between April and October. Book now.

Otherwise, once again, the car is the most practical option. We recommend the DiscoverCars platform and you can read all our tips in this article.
