Cannes’ best places to stay: map
See our map showing the 4 main areas to stay in Cannes: the Croisette, downtown, Suquet and the train station.
Sleep along the Promenade de la Croisette
The Promenade de la Croisette is a must-see avenue on France’s Côte d’Azur. It runs along the Mediterranean Sea for around 3 kilometers from the Palais des Festivals to Port Canto. It embodies luxury, glamour and the French art of living. Check out our article on other must-do activities in Cannes!
Benefits:
- Ideally located: a wide range of restaurants, hotels, bars and shops in the immediate vicinity.
- A lively seaside resort: discover the various beaches of the Croisette and their waterfront restaurants.
- A lively nightlife: you’ll live the Cannes experience to the full, combining luxury and glamour. Clubs, discos and casinos follow one another.
Disadvantages:
- Potential noise: the Promenade de la Croisette is very famous, and therefore very busy. There can be noise pollution, especially at night.
- Limited parking: if you’re traveling by car, be aware that it’s difficult to park near the Croisette and in downtown Cannes. Some streets are completely pedestrianized.
- Higher cost: prices are higher because of the Croisette’s international reputation. Nearby parking lots are not free and are relatively expensive.
Our favorite hotels:
We recommend the Hôtel Barrière Le Majestic (5 stars), directly on the seafront – see photos and availability.
We also recommend the 5-star Hôtel Five Seas, 100m from Boulevard de la Croisette, which boasts a rooftop swimming pool – see photos and availability.
Sleep in the historic Suquet district
Le Suquet is Cannes’ historic district, situated on a hill overlooking the harbor and bay. It’s famous for its Provencal charm, with narrow cobbled streets, colorful facades and picturesque squares. We loved strolling through the narrow streets of the old town!
Benefits:
- Viewpoints: from this promontory, you’ll enjoy magnificent panoramic views of the bay, the city’s colorful rooftops, and even historic buildings!
- Tranquility: this area is generally quieter and more peaceful than the busy Croisette. The walks are very pleasant and the atmosphere more traditional and authentic.
- A great choice of hotels and restaurants: you’ll be spoilt for choice with many good addresses, some with breathtaking views of the sea or the city!
- Activities: between the old port and the Forville market, you’ll never see the time pass as you stroll through this district!
Disadvantages:
- Ascent: take a sloping path or climb a flight of stairs to reach the historic quarter. So be sure to bring good shoes and water before setting off up the hill!
- Limited parking: if you’re traveling by car, be aware that it’s difficult to park in Le Suquet. Some streets are completely pedestrianized.
Our favorite hotels:
We recommend Hôtel Le Suquet Cannes (4 stars), which boasts an exceptional view of the sea and the city – see photos and availability.
We also recommend the 4-star Hôtel Belle Plage, with its spa and panoramic restaurant – see photos and availability.
Sleeping in downtown Cannes
Cannes city center is about 1km long, and is home to numerous shops, restaurants and hotels.
Benefits:
- Close to the Croisette: from downtown, you can easily reach the famous promenade and enjoy its festive atmosphere.
- A great choice of hotels and restaurants: you’ll be spoilt for choice!
- Peace and quiet: as you move away from the Croisette, you’ll find quieter, less expensive areas on the outskirts of the city center.
Disadvantages:
- Potential noise: the area is very lively and busy, so there may be some noise pollution, particularly on the Croisette side.
- Limited parking: if you’re traveling by car, be aware that it’s difficult to park in downtown Cannes. Some streets are completely pedestrianized.
- Higher cost: prices are higher because of the Croisette’s international reputation. Parking lots are not free and relatively expensive.
Our favorite hotels:
We recommend the Hotel BW Premier Collection Mondial (4 stars), just a few meters from the Croisette – see photos and availability.
We also recommend the Hôtel de Provence (3 stars), which has plenty of character and good value for money – see photos and availability.
Sleeping near Cannes train station
The Cannes train station is located on the edge of the city center, 500m from the Boulevard de la Croisette.
Benefits:
- Location: you can easily explore the city center and reach the famous Promenade de la Croisette on foot.
- A great choice of hotels and restaurants: you’ll be spoilt for choice with many good addresses nearby!
- Journey: you can’t miss your train (normally)!
Disadvantages:
- Limited parking: if you’re traveling by car, be aware that it’s difficult to park in downtown Cannes. Some streets are completely pedestrianized.
- Noise potential: the station is located just behind a major expressway, the D6007. Traffic can cause noise pollution.
Our favorite hotels:
We recommend the Hotel Okko (4 stars) which is located directly next to the station – see photos and availability.
We also recommend Hôtel Le Mistral (3 stars), strategically located at the crossroads of the city center, the train station and the Croisette – see photos and availability.
Other tips to keep in mind
The city is a popular international tourist destination, thanks in particular to the Cannes Film Festival. Visiting the French Riviera comes at a price, especially if you go during the high season. We recommend that you book your accommodation as early as possible to take advantage of the best rates.
Please note that traffic can be heavy, especially during peak periods, vacations or events. We recommend that you check traffic conditions and plan your route in advance if you are coming by car.
