In May on the Côte d’Azur, rainfall is generally moderate. Showers, when they do occur, are often short-lived and may be followed by sunny spells. Intense rainfall is rare, but occasional thunderstorms can occur, bringing heavier precipitation over a short period.

Local markets abound with fresh seasonal produce. Restaurants and cafés extend their opening hours, and terraces gradually come alive. It’s also a great time to explore the hinterland, with temperatures perfect for hiking.

  • Cannes Film Festival
    One of the world’s most prestigious film events, it brings together the world’s greatest directors, actors and producers to present their work in official competition for the coveted Palme d’Or. The festival features preview screenings, press conferences and the famous red carpet walk up the steps.
  • Les Bravades de la Saint-Maur in Cogolin
    It’s a traditional Provencal festival celebrated every year in Cogolin. In honor of Saint-Maur, the village’s patron saint, this festival dates back to the 17th century and combines religion, history and folklore. Festivities include processions in period costume, military parades, and musket firing in homage to the traditions of the old Provencal militias.
  • Monaco Grand Prix
    The Monaco Grand Prix is one of the world’s most iconic motor races. Held every year at the end of May in the streets of Monte-Carlo, it is famous for its complex urban layout, which takes in legendary bends such as the Rascasse and the Casino climb. The race, held since 1929, is the epitome of luxury and speed, attracting top drivers and international celebrities to the heart of the Principality of Monaco.
  • Roses and Plants Festival
    Organized every year in the magnificent gardens of the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, classified as “remarkable”. The venue becomes the stage for a floral celebration featuring renowned rose growers and horticulturists. The intention is to promote horticulture while immersing visitors in an exceptional setting.

May prices

In May, prices on the Côte d’Azur are generally more affordable than in the high summer season. However, they can vary considerably depending on the type of accommodation and its location. Options range from budget hostels to luxury hotels.
