Where to stay in Menton: best districts
Why stay in Menton?
Located on the Côte d’Azur on the border with Italy, Menton is a charming town with colorful architecture and narrow streets. It’s famous for its Lemon Festival, beaches, old port and lush gardens. Italian influences are evident in the local culture and cuisine.
We really enjoyed exploring the cobbled streets of the historic center, and discovering the facades of Provencal houses. It was a veritable explosion of color! The magnificent Mediterranean coastal scenery totally captivated us. It’s a popular destination for its traditional atmosphere, pleasant climate and unique blend of cultures.
Our article on must-do activities in the city will be available soon.
The best places to stay in Menton: map
Here’s our map to help you find your way, with the 3 main areas to stay in Menton:
Staying in the historic city center
We loved strolling around downtown Menton. Its picturesque lanes, small shops and many brightly-colored buildings brightened up our visit. As you explore the historic district, you’ll discover its architectural heritage and local life.
Benefits:
- Location: a wide range of restaurants, hotels, bars and shops in the immediate vicinity.
- Activities: you’ll see no time pass as you stroll through this district, which concentrates most of the city’s tourist attractions.
- Architecture: like us, you’ll fall under the spell of the colorful little streets and superb buildings of the city center.
Disadvantages:
- Noise: this is a lively area, popular with tourists. This can lead to noise pollution.
- Parking: if you’re traveling by car, be aware that most parking lots in the city center are not free.
Our favorite hotels:
- Hôtel Résidence Châteauneuf – see photos and availability.
- Hotel Ibis Styles Menton Centre – see photos and availability.
- Hotel Chambord – see photos and availability.
Staying on the West Coast
The area west of the city center extends towards Roquebrune-Cap-Martin. It includes the Plage du Borrigo and the Jardin du Palais de Carnolès.
Benefits:
- Seafront: the majority of hotels west of the city center are located on the seafront.
- Viewpoints: some of the city’s hotels offer magnificent panoramic views of the bay. Would you like to wake up facing the sea?
- Peace and quiet: hotels on the west coast are off-center, and therefore quieter. Walks along the water’s edge are very pleasant.
- Beach access: you’ll be close to the Plage du Borrigo.
Disadvantages:
- Location: you’ll have to walk further to get to the city center, or take the car. There is also a bus network. A pleasant walk along the waterfront.

Our favorite hotels:
- Hotel Villa Genesis – see photos and availability.
- Hotel Riva Art & Spa – see photos and availability.

Staying on the east coast
The area to the east of Menton’s historic district begins towards the end of Plage des Sablettes. It includes the Val Rahmeh-Menton Botanical Garden, which we particularly enjoyed.
Benefits:
- Seafront: the 2 hotels we recommend east of the city center are located on the seafront.
- Viewpoints: you’ll enjoy magnificent panoramic views of the city as you climb to new heights.
- Peace and quiet: hotels on the east coast are slightly off-center, and therefore quieter.
- Beach access: you’ll be close to the large Plage des Sablettes.
Disadvantages:
- Slope: you’ll have to climb to get to some areas to the east of the historic center. It’s less pleasant to walk around.
- Location: you’ll have to walk further to get to the city center, or take the car. There is also a bus network.
- Cultural life: you’ll be further away from the main tourist attractions in the city center.
Our favorite hotels:
- Hôtel Napoléon – see photos and availability.
- Hotel Palm Garavan – see photos and availability.
Other tips to keep in mind
This Côte d’Azur town is a popular tourist destination, thanks in particular to its Lemon Festival and its proximity to Italy. Be aware that if you go in high season, prices will be less affordable. We recommend that you book your accommodation as early as possible to take advantage of the best rates. We prefer the Booking platform, as calendars are updated in real time.
For your stay in Menton, we recommend you use a car. This way, you can easily explore the other medieval towns and villages nearby. You can also take the opportunity to discover part of Italy.
