To discover Aix-en-Provence in optimal conditions, the Hôtel Escaletto is a great choice! In our opinion, its main assets are:

Is Hotel Escaletto worth it? Our review
Yes, without hesitation! For us, Hotel Escaletto is worth a visit for its charm. Sleeping there was a very pleasant experience. You’ll be staying right in the historic heart of Paris, opposite the famous Thermes Sextius and just 2 steps from the Pavillon Vendôme and its French gardens. Its attractive decor and the fact that it has been completely refurbished make it one of the best hotels in Aix-en-Provence. However, it’s true that the rooms can be a little small, but this shouldn’t detract too much from your stay.

The helpful staff greeted us on arrival with a glass of lemon-mint detox water, a thoughtful touch that exemplifies the spirit of the establishment.
Take the time to look for the little wooden bird affixed to several parts of the hotel, a nod to the hotel’s name. Did you know that “Escaletto” means “bird that lands on the branch” in Provençal?

Decoration and atmosphere
As soon as we walked through the door, we felt the cosy, welcoming atmosphere of the place. Every detail is carefully thought out to nurture the colorful atmosphere that sets the tone for a convivial stay. You’ll notice the works of abstract art that harmoniously decorate the common areas, bringing a contemporary touch to the whole. The meticulous decoration creates a pleasant contrast between modernity and Provencal authenticity.

The room
On arrival, a small bottle of L’Eau Neuve mountain mineral water was waiting for us on the desk. Our room seduced us with its bright, uncluttered atmosphere, perfectly suited to a relaxing stay. The decor skilfully blends wicker and bright colors, notably yellow and white, creating a warm, intimate atmosphere.

Soft and comfortable, we spent a very peaceful night in the 2-seater bed in our room.
Large windows bring in plenty of natural light, while a small desk with chair provides work or reading space.

We also found a television in the room. The view looks out onto the street, allowing you to observe the bustle of the neighborhood and the entrance to the Thermes Sextius. One detail caught our eye: in the vase containing the bamboo, a small bird was perched on the branches, a nod to the hotel’s name, since “Escaletto” means “bird that lands on the branch” in Provençal.

The bathroom
Heading for the bathroom, this room was practical and functional, albeit small and ideally suited to one person. We found a shower and toilet in the same space, optimizing the layout. Natural, vegan hygiene products from Green Lab were available, as part of an environmentally-friendly approach. This bathroom will meet all your essential needs, in a spirit of simplicity and efficiency.

The breakfast
To fill up on energy before our visits, the varied buffet breakfast won us over with its diversity and the quality of its products. You’ll find local flavors and homemade preparations. Freshly baked Viennese pastries, a variety of cereals and delicious homemade pastries that make you want to extend your morning are waiting for you in the main room on the first floor.

You can also choose between brioches, pancakes and crêpes, as well as a variety of artisan breads. On the savoury side, fromage blanc, cold meats, eggs and fresh tomatoes round off this generous buffet, the perfect way to start a day’s sightseeing.

It’s a fairly intimate establishment with limited space. There’s also a cosy bar to extend your evenings. You can also relax on the panoramic rooftop, which is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the establishment. This elevated terrace offers unobstructed views of the city and houses a cocktail bar, perfect for enjoying an aperitif while admiring the sunset.

The restoration
The hotel does not offer restaurant services other than breakfast and the bar. However, you’re right in the historic heart of the city. See our selection of good places to eat in Aix-en-Provence (available soon).

Where the hotel is located
Easily accessible, the establishment is located in the historic center of Aix-en-Provence, opposite the Thermes Sextius at 74 cours Sextius.
This privileged location gives you direct access to the Provencal city’s main sites of interest, including the Pavillon Vendôme, Hôtel de Caumont, Musée Granet and Fontaine Rotonde, all within a 10-15 minute walk.
How to get there
Several public transport options serve the area around Hotel Escaletto:
- By bus: you can take bus lines 3 and 140, getting off at the Rotonde Bonaparte stop, a 10-minute walk from the establishment. Bus line A is also a convenient alternative, getting off at the Rotonde stop, also a 10-minute walk away.
- On foot: the hotel is also a 10-minute walk from the Fontaine Rotonde and Cours Mirabeau, and close to the Pavillon Vendôme, making it easy to get to Aix-en-Provence’s landmarks.
Access by car is more restricted as you’re in the city center. However, it is possible to park in a parking lot just a few minutes’ walk from the hotel – see our tips in the next section.

Parking
There’s no dedicated parking, and parking in the small alley nearby proved difficult on our visit. We recommend parking in the pay parking lot on Avenue Giuseppe Verdi, less than 10 minutes’ walk away. This solution guarantees safe parking, even if it means a short walk to the facility. The hotel doesn’t offer bicycle parking either, which is something to bear in mind if you’re traveling by two-wheeler.

For people with reduced mobility
An elevator provides easy access to the various floors of the hotel, but the site does not offer any other facilities specifically for people with reduced mobility. We noticed that there were a few steps up to the hotel, but no ramp. However, once inside, the elevator makes it easy to move around the building.

Is Hotel Escaletto family-friendly?
The hotel welcomes children of all ages, although it does not offer any facilities, equipment or services specifically dedicated to families. Please note that no family rooms or cots are available.
