Why visit the Plage du Midi in Cannes?

Is Plage du Midi worth it?

In our opinion, Plage du Midi is well worth a visit. It is one of the most beautiful beaches on the Côte d’Azur. Public and private beaches line the stretch of sand. We particularly enjoyed the waterfront restaurants, as well as the many water sports activities available on the beach. One thing’s for sure: you won’t be bored! We highly recommend this beach for families. The view over the bay of Cannes and the mountain ranges on the horizon totally charmed us!

Plage du Midi

Why choose this beach?

Plage du Midi is the ideal destination for an enjoyable experience with family and friends. Here are the top 3 reasons why you should consider visiting:

  • its facilities: you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to water sports activities. Between kayaking, towed buoys and windsurfing, there’s something for everyone! If you’re in search of relaxation, head to the private beaches to sip a cocktail from the comfort of a deckchair facing the sea!
  • its scenery: from the beach, you’ll enjoy an exceptional view of the Bay of Cannes, and the mountains in the distance!
  • its location: just 2km from the town center, you can easily reach Plage du Midi on foot, by bus or by car.

In fact, it’s one of the city’s must-do activities and best beaches.

How to get there – access road

Plage du Midi is an urban beach located about 2km west of the Promenade de la Croisette. It is relatively close to the city center, and can be reached by car via Avenue du Docteur Raymond Picaud. You can also walk there directly (15min) from the Suquet district.

Plage du Midi

To get there by public transport from the city center, we recommend you take bus number 22, which runs along the Boulevard du Midi.

Bus

Parking de la Plage du Midi

You’ll find the Grand Parking de la Plage at 25 Avenue du Docteur Raymond Picaud. It is free. For our part, we parked directly in the parking spaces along the road facing the beach, as we were in the off-season.

Parking

Access to the beach from the parking lot

To reach Plage du Midi from the parking lot, you’ll have to walk under a small tunnel that passes under the railroad line and crosses the road.

On the sand and in the water…practical advice

Best time to visit

The best time of year to go to the Plage du Midi in Cannes depends on individual preferences. However, the Côte d’Azur’s peak tourist season is between June and September. The beach will be busier during this period. If you prefer to avoid the crowds, we recommend visiting outside these months.

Pier

As for the best time of day, it’s best to visit the beach early in the morning or late in the afternoon, to avoid the heat peak and enjoy more peace and quiet. In high season, the crowds are constant between 11am and 5pm. This beach is very popular with families.

Beach type and size

The ground of Plage du Midi is composed of fine golden sand.

It’s a very long stretch of sand, as it includes several beaches (public and private). It is of medium width.

Plage du Midi

Conditions for swimming

Entering the water is very pleasant, as the slope is gentle and gradual. Ideal for children. With its Blue Flag label, this beach is also environmentally friendly. Water quality is regulated.

Facilities and activities

Monitoring

The beach is supervised in summer between 11am and 6pm to ensure the safety of bathers.

Showers, toilets, deckchairs…

We observed public showers and toilets along the stretch of sand. You can also rent deckchairs on private beaches, such as Plage des Sports.

Private beach

Shadow

Unfortunately, there are no shady spots on Plage du Midi. However, sunshades can be hired for protection from the sun.

Nautical activities

Plage du Midi offers a wide range of water sports activities for young and old. For a family day out on the beach, head to Cannes Esprit Glisse, where you’ll be able to do just that:

  • wakesurfing,
  • wakeboarding,
  • of the towed buoy,
  • water skiing.
Kayak

During the tourist season, Base Nautique de Cannes Jeunesse offers private lessons and the possibility of renting catamarans, windsurfing boards, kayaks and other equipment. Find out more here.

Catering

Along the beach, you’ll discover several waterfront restaurants set right on the sand. Our 2 favorite addresses are:

  • Restaurant Le Bénitier Canne: beyond its private beach with pontoon, the cuisine is of the highest quality!
  • Restaurant Maëma Plage du Midi: enjoy a breathtaking view of the bay, while savoring Mediterranean dishes!

To discover our favorite restaurants in the city, please see our dedicated article.

Alternatively, you can eat for less at kiosks offering fast food (sandwiches, paninis, salads). You’ll find several of them at regular intervals on the road along the beach.

Information for children, mobility, dogs, naturism…

La Plage du Midi with children

This beach is perfect for children. In addition to the water activities, they can also play on the Square Mistral playground. What’s more, a fun and efficient system has been put in place to ensure their safety. By visiting the aid stations or kiosks, you can pick up a bracelet with a figurine. With this accessory, your children will know where to go if they get lost. Giant figurines were installed on raised poles to enable children to identify them easily.

Plage du Midi

Access for people with reduced mobility

To reach this beach, you’ll find a number of fairly narrow staircases along the road. However, we did observe a gently sloping access ramp to the beach volleyball courts.

La Plage du Midi and naturism

Plage du Midi is not a naturist beach.

L’Estacade

To the east of the beach is a long jetty that leads to a magnificent viewpoint. We were charmed by this exceptional panorama of the sea and the city. We went there at the start of the day. The brightness made the scene even more magical!

Boom

Les Rochers du Coke

We also recommend walking to the Rochers du Coke, at the western end of the beach. It’s an ideal place for snorkeling. Grab a mask and snorkel as you explore the seabed along these impressive rocks!
