Where to sleep in La Ciotat
The town of La Ciotat isn’t very big, but it has its own distinct neighborhoods, each with its own advantages and disadvantages for your stay.
Here’s our analysis of the best place to stay.
Option 1 – around the old port
Benefits:
- The beauty of the old port
- The many bars and restaurants
- Central to all the city’s attractions
Disadvantages:
- Noisier
- A little further from the sandy beaches (15 to 25min walk)
- Few hotels, mostly rentals
Option 2 – around the sandy beaches
Benefits:
- Easy access to the beautiful sandy beaches of La Ciotat
- Plenty of seaside restaurants with a relaxed atmosphere
Disadvantages:
- A short walk to see the city’s attractions
- A little further from the atmosphere of the old port
Option 3 – Calanques side
Benefits:
- Close to the magnificent scenery of the calanques
- Calm
Disadvantages:
- Few hotels, mostly rentals
- On the heights, with streets sloping upwards to return from the old port
- Very few restaurants in this area
Option 4 – East of town (Liouquet)
Benefits:
- Very quiet, more natural area
- Magnificent views
- 2 very good restaurants
Disadvantages:
- You have to take the car to go downtown
- Less choice in restaurants
- The Liouquet beach is very small and rocky.

1. Best Western Vieux-Port Hotel
Why stay there?
We particularly enjoyed our stay at the Best Western hotel in La Ciotat.
Its central location, on the quays of the Vieux Port, lets you enjoy the charm and liveliness of the city.
From our room, we had a magnificent view of the port. As the sun rose, we set up on the terrace to make the most of it!
The highlight of the show is the roof terrace. Upstairs, you’ll find an infinity pool (pictured at the start of this article), Jacuzzi, solarium and gym. We took the opportunity to relax!

2. Rose Tea Hotel
Why stay there?
If you like hotels with a retro feel, look no further!
The first thing to smile about is the all-pink welcome, but don’t worry, the colors change inside.
Its two main advantages are its vintage chic decor, without overdoing it, and its location right next to the beaches.
And we particularly like one of the rooms with a large terrace and private Jacuzzi!

3. Aparthotel À Deux Pas de l’Eau
Why stay there?
If you don’t want to eat out at every meal, an apartment is a good option. This aparthotel offers spacious accommodation with bright, modern decor.
What’s more, all you have to do is take about 20 steps and you’ll find yourself with your feet in the sand… what a pleasure!
Please note, however, that the kitchen facilities are rather limited (no traditional oven).

4. Hôtel Corniche du Liouquet
Why stay there?
For the view… Some rooms have a sea view, others a country view. But if you do come, it’s for the sea view, with Ile Verte and Cap de l’Aigle emerging from this vast expanse of intense blue.
For peace and quiet… it’s a small 15-room hotel far from the hustle and bustle of the city, ideal for recharging your batteries. You can even hear the lapping of the water from your bedroom.
For breakfast with home-made products
Just be aware that Liouquet beach is tiny and rocky.

- Restaurant: no, but two fine restaurants 5 minutes’ walk away

5. Hotel Spa Plage Saint-Jean
Why stay there?
This small 35-room hotel on the seafront offers a peaceful setting with good facilities for enjoying La Ciotat: an indoor swimming pool, sauna and Jacuzzi.
What we particularly like is that the hotel is located on the rocky beaches of Saint-Jean, with direct access to the area. We really liked this atypical beach, even if it meant the hotel was a little further from the town center.

6. Miramar L’Orchidée Hotel
Why stay there?
With its colorful facade that makes you feel the sun, you won’t want to miss the Hotel Miramar. It’s located on the seafront, near the beautiful sandy beaches (and therefore a 20-minute walk from the old port).
Some of the rooms have a sea view with a small balcony, while others overlook the courtyard. But they’re all 50m from the sand!
A hearty breakfast.

7. Hotel Calanques de Figuerolles
Why stay there?
If you’re looking for a more natural option, right next to one of La Ciotat’s most beautiful spots, check out this hotel nestled in the Figuerolles cove, 50m from the sea.
This small boutique hotel with 8 bungalows, several terraces and a restaurant offers a very different experience, but not as quiet as you’d expect from a bar and restaurant.

- Range: 3-star equivalent
- Restaurant: yes
- Family rooms: yes
- No wifi and the restaurant can be noisy.
- Facilities: close to the sea, table tennis, deckchairs
- Parking: no parking at the hotel, you have to park at the calanque parking lot or in the surrounding streets, a 5-minute walk away.
