Our opinion:<\/h3>\n\n<p>Yes, we recommend visiting the museum for several reasons:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>A unique location<\/strong>: the museum is located in the center of <strong>Old Nice<\/strong>, near the Cour Saleya. The area is very touristy and colorful. By the way, you&#8217;ll notice on the picture that the museum blends in with the scenery because it is a warm orange red!  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Provence-Lovers\/Nice\/Mus&#xE9;es\/n-hb4qTV\/Mus&#xE9;e-de-la-Photographie-Charles-N&#xE8;gre\/i-MFBmgQg\/0\/fef2ac6b\/L\/Musee-Photo-Nice-1-L.jpg\" alt=\"Front of the museum\" style=\"width:703px;height:527px\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>A former industrial building<\/strong>: the museum is located in the premises of the<strong>former Prefecture substation<\/strong>. It was in operation in the 1930s and was used to supply electricity to the neighborhood. It should be noted that the museum hosts mainly temporary exhibitions. In this sense, many talented contemporary photographers have the opportunity to be featured. Later, he moved to an old electric substation located in Place Pierre Gautier in the old town of Nice. In 2016, it officially became the Charles N\u00e8gre Museum of Photography.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Provence-Lovers\/Nice\/Mus&#xE9;es\/n-hb4qTV\/Mus&#xE9;e-de-la-Photographie-Charles-N&#xE8;gre\/i-LRPTdcK\/0\/8afe2271\/L\/Musee-Photo-Nice-2-2-L.jpg\" alt=\"View on the front of the museum\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>The front of the building is deeply marked by its history, which gives it a unique character. As you can see on the picture, we can still read the inscription &#8220;sub-station prefecture&#8221; above the entrance of the museum. In addition, the golden eagle with its crown symbolizes the coat of arms of the city of Nice.  <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Provence-Lovers\/Nice\/Mus&#xE9;es\/n-hb4qTV\/Mus&#xE9;e-de-la-Photographie-Charles-N&#xE8;gre\/i-rsVbMGk\/0\/a4a5a893\/L\/Lionel-Kazan-Musee-Photo-Nice-3-L.jpg\" alt=\"Exhibition on the work of Lionel Kazan\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>In 2018, the museum was awarded the Quality Tourism label. This is a very positive indicator of the quality of the reception and services offered to the public. In the image above, you can see the large spaces available to visitors. The information on current exhibitions is very readable and accessible to all.  <\/p>\n\n<p><strong>History of Charles N\u00e8gre:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>Why did the museum choose this name? Charles N\u00e8gre is a painter and a great pioneer of photography. For the time, his pictures were revolutionary, because he tried to capture the instant. His models have worn Christian Dior, Pierre Cardin, Yves Saint Laurent, etc. Through his pictures, we have relived the golden age of haute couture and the rise of ready-to-wear. The growing freedom of women seems to be at the heart of the work of Lionel Kazan.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The documentation center<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>Inside the museum, you will have access to a documentation center on the first floor. We particularly appreciated this space filled with books related to photography. You will find your happiness! The collection includes books on the history of photography, but also on current events in the field.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>In the photo gallery: the world of Alexandre Dufaye<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p><strong>A local contemporary photographer:  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>Alexandre Dufaye is a French visual photographer born in Nice in 1972. Through his exhibition <em>Retour sur Terre-Repenser le vivant<\/em>, he mixes two series of photos taken in 2019 and 2021. From the landscapes of the Camargue to the Salins de Giraud, he captures a natural and immobile universe disrupted by human activity.  <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Provence-Lovers\/Nice\/Mus&#xE9;es\/n-hb4qTV\/Mus&#xE9;e-de-la-Photographie-Charles-N&#xE8;gre\/i-GVKH9SN\/0\/56215351\/L\/Alexandre-Dufaye-Galerie-Photo-Nice-1-L.jpg\" alt=\"Alexandre Dufaye Exhibition\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>The photographer questions the impact we have on the world around us. As you can see above, his work is quite minimalist and uncluttered. However, he manages to sublimate simple subjects and to convey his message to us. Some photos have marked us more than others. Of course it depends on the sensitivity of each person towards a work of art. The two photographers exhibited during our visit brought different views on photography. Nevertheless, both of them captured beautiful and unique shots.
