Is a visit to the Serre de la Madone Garden worthwhile?<\/h2>\n\n

Yes, the garden is well worth a visit. It is located in a very steep area, on the slope of a veritable ridge. We loved its rare botanical collection<\/strong> and serene ambience<\/strong>. Exploring its steep paths and shady steps, we were seduced by its timeless charm<\/strong> and discovered a dazzling variety of flowers, trees and plants. A stroll through this iconic garden<\/strong> is a true journey into a world of beauty and tranquility. It’s also a must<\/strong> for nature lovers and gardening enthusiasts.<\/p>\n\n

Serre de la Madone Garden is, in our opinion, one of the most beautiful gardens on the C\u00f4te d’Azur<\/a>. It is also listed as a Historic Monument and has been awarded the “Jardin Remarquable” label.<\/p>\n\n

A small water lily pond<\/h3>\n\n

As soon as you enter, at the bend in the path, you find yourself at a crossroads<\/strong> of passages and staircases hidden in the lush green shade of the lush vegetation. In the center, a small round pool sown with water lilies<\/strong> sets the tone for freshness and serenity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

Stone staircases<\/h3>\n\n

Winding paths<\/strong> and stone steps<\/strong> add a picturesque dimension to the walk. They invite you to lose yourself in the hidden corners of<\/strong> the garden. They promise an adventure<\/strong> full of discovery and wonder.<\/p>\n\n

The main pergola<\/h3>\n\n

The main pergola is on the left as you climb to the top of the garden. It supports magnificent wisteria and clematis<\/strong>, which were not in flower at the time of our visit. But we could imagine the fragrant meditative pause<\/strong> they must offer.<\/p>\n\n

The water garden<\/h3>\n\n

The Serre de la Madone Garden is laid out in successive levels<\/strong>. One of the first is the water garden<\/strong>. It comprises 2 large rectangular basins facing each other. In the middle of the one on the right, a statue of Venus<\/strong>, framed by papyrus, greets the visitor.<\/p>\n\n

The hot greenhouse<\/h3>\n\n

Opposite the Venus, in the shade of huge umbrella pines<\/strong>, is a hot greenhouse<\/strong>. It’s a former orangery. It is home to tropical plants<\/strong>. In front of her, the rectangular basin was once a bathing pool<\/strong>. It is lined with terracotta Anduze vases<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

The central staircase<\/h3>\n\n

Above the water garden, themain staircase<\/strong> leads up to the villa. This is thecentral axis <\/strong>of the composition of the site as intended by the garden’s founder, Lawrence Johnston<\/strong>. At the end of the 19th century, he chose to build his home here and create a garden for which he would bring back the rarest plants<\/strong> from the ends of the earth.<\/p>\n\n

Stone fountains<\/h3>\n\n

In addition to the various water features cleverly arranged in different parts of the garden, there is a sculpted stone fountain<\/strong> on every landing. Often tucked away in the greenery, they captivate the eye with their refined decoration<\/strong> and contribute to theromantic atmosphere<\/strong> of the garden.<\/p>\n\n
