It boasts imposing bastions and well-preserved fortifications. It dominates the old town and offers a <strong>breathtaking view of the bay of<\/strong> Villefranche and the Mediterranean. Today it houses the town hall and a cultural center with <strong>3 museums<\/strong>, <strong>temporary exhibitions<\/strong> and <strong>cultural events<\/strong>. Swimming Plage des Marini\u00e8res<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Provence-Lovers\/Villefranche-sur-Mer\/n-k3fDq3\/Ville\/i-ZS7fb2j\/0\/Dm9XSLwS6CRKXVFNJQ87pFzfW2sWmRHJdQr4s9NKS\/L\/plage-marinieres-villefranche-L.jpg\" alt=\"Plage des Marini&#xE8;res, Villefranche-sur-Mer\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the edge of the railroad line, just opposite the SNCF station (and therefore accessible by TER), Plage des Marini\u00e8res offers a magnificent view of Villefranche and Cap-Ferrat. We loved its turquoise waters and fine gravel. In fact, it&#8217;s one of <a href=\"https:\/\/provencelovers.fr\/en\/best-beaches-cote-azur\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">our favorite beaches on the C\u00f4te d&#8217;<\/a>Azur. The beach is public, with a private section in the center, near the lifeguard station. We loved its sober, uncluttered Baroque architecture, a Mediterranean adaptation of the Piedmontese Baroque style. We have devoted <a href=\"https:\/\/provencelovers.fr\/en\/visit-church-saint-michel-villefranche-sur-mer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">an entire article<\/a> to it. Its cobbled streets invite you to stroll. There are also small shops, caf\u00e9s and traditional restaurants where you can enjoy <strong>local specialties<\/strong> in a Mediterranean atmosphere. This is one of the reasons why Villefranche is <a href=\"https:\/\/provencelovers.fr\/en\/where-to-stay-cote-azur-best-areas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">one of our favorite destinations on the C\u00f4te d&#8217;Azur<\/a>. Enjoy the soft, romantic light of the old town&#8217;s narrow streets. And maybe you&#8217;ll be lucky enough to catch a show at the citadel&#8217;s Th\u00e9\u00e2tre de Verdure? We were able to get <strong>a room with a small terrace<\/strong> overlooking the bay at the seafront<strong>H\u00f4tel Welcome<\/strong>, where Cocteau once stayed. We watched the sun rise behind Cap Ferrat.
